a social enterprise that means business
| business is such an ugly word | |
|
Well, yes it is. However here at nourish it is through our business activities that we have become less reliant of grant funding, which although nice when you can get it, is time limited and in some cases distract from the main focus of the organisation. This is not say that we do not apply for funding, we do; and encourage strong relationships with our funders; but if the political climate were to change overnight along with funding priorities, we would be in a stronger position to sustain our community aims. Of course, since the people that join our team and help us run the business, are our community aims, then you can understand why they would rather have the certainty of sustainability from there own means and skills rather than that of a fundraiser. As a social enterprise it is one of our main goals to increase our level of financial sustainability to a level where we need not rely on funding at all, however this is still a few years away. |
